There are many theories for the stages/phases of team development. The five-stage model is one of them. This model is only valid in a few very precise team formations scenarios. Think of a team in which you have participated (project team at work, sport team, etc.). Think back on how the team formed from the first day until the end of the project, or sporting season. Describe what took place. How did you progress into the next stage/phase of team development? Which theory of team development most applied to your example? Why?

When I was working with American express, I was part of Campaign Management team for 2 years and then applied for a lateral move in the newly formed DART2.0 team and got selected. The team was getting build up from scratch and only manager was being appointed for the team. The group got developed over the period of one month and the team comprised of 10 members including manager. When the group was formed all the members were dependent on the manager to understand and get insight about the project. Manager interacted with all the group members and carried out sessions so that the members also start interacting with each other. The interactive sessions helped the team members to intermingle with each other.
Once the team members started working with each other on the project, the members started feeling comfortable with each other and worked together for making the project successful. When the project was in progress there were many changes from the client which need to be handled. The group members worked in cohesion with each other to manage the change and handle the situation.
Over the period the members were encouraged by the manager for coming up with innovative and creative ideas. The team members in the team gained confidence to work in the sub group for completion of the tasks assigned. The group adopted norms that encourage productivity, high performance standards which helped in moving effectively toward goals.
The team worked hard together for completion of project and it was completed on time. After successful completion the team got adjourned as the project was completed successfully and the members were moved to new project for DART3.0 by forming a new team.
The theory of Tuckman’s Five Stages of Group Development applied to my working in the team for DART2.0 as the group progressed from different stages of group development over the period of time from initiation of the project till the completion of the project.
