Refer to the following figure, and answer the following questions (4 points):

What is the identifier for the CERTIFICATE associative entity?      

Now, assume that the same employee may take the same course multiple times, on different dates. Does this change your answer to part a? Why or why not?       

Now, assume we want to keep track of the instructor who issues each certificate to each employee for each course. How would you relate this new entity with the other entities?      

How did you choose to relate INSTRUCTOR to CERTIFICATE and why?      

Explanation / Answer

The identifier for the CERTIFICATE associate entity is Certificate Number because it is the primary key in the table which depicts that it is unique for each and every entry as well.

If the same employee takes the same multiple times at different dates then the course ID will change for each of the course taken but the certificate number won't change as it is unique based on the type of course taken. If the course taken is different then the certificate number will change.

If we need to keep track of instructors, then another table named instructor need to be created which will possess a unique key that will be the Instructor ID and other details like the name, address, etc. of the instructor and based on that the relationship between course and Instructor will be established which will also relate the instructor with the course and subsequently with the instructor as well.
