i)
The project that we would be discussing about is the implementation of a new Enterprise Resource planning software.
Since this involves implementing new software and replacing the old one, some of the business processes may be mapped differently and the flow may change somewhat. As a result of the same, there are some supporters for the project and few opponents.
For example, the sourcing team believes that the old software is cumbersome to work with and welcomes a transition to the new software which is expected to be more user friendly. However they are only one department in the organization and hence their influence is less. The already supportive group can be used as an example do build leverage for the implementation.
Similarly, the distribution team is well versed with the intricacies of the older software and believes any new implementation will disrupt their smooth functioning. So they are against the implementation. As they are also a single department, their influence is also low. By providing adequate details and technical features, it may be possible to change their viewpoint.
The VP of marketing and VP materials are in support of the new software as they feel this will bring in greater efficiency. Being hierarchical head of respective departments, their sphere of influence is large. They can be used to mobilize greater support for the product.
The VP of HR on the other hand is sceptical of the new implementation as he is afraid of the impact the new tool will have on employee morale. His sphere of influence is again large.
ii)
By communicating about the features of the new software, giving adequate details and if possible arranging for a demonstration, it should be possible to change the viewpoint of the distribution team who are against the new implementation. By providing a demonstration would help to convince them of the superiority of the product and hence they should also come around to support the project.
