As we discussed, in many species, there is much greater variance in male reproductive success than in female reproductive success. This could result from a few dominant males controlling the access to the breeding grounds the females need to give birth. However, there are other ways to get the same pattern of variance in male reproductive success without male controlling access to a resource or to females. How might you get the same variance in male reproductive success via intersexual selection?

I am not 100% sure about this answer but I know that intersexual selection is when members of one sex choose members of the other sex based on some trait and/or physical feature. This can include singing, dancing, an animals appearance, strength and health. Is there anything I am missing?

Sexual selection is a traditionally divided into the processes of intrasexual selection which is the, selection between members of one sex for reproductive access to the other sex and intersexual selection, in which selection of mates is non random. Both of the sexes can directly compete for matings and exert mate choice,females are often choosier in selecting mates than are males due to which male-male competition is more apparent than female-female competition . Across the species, males are usually the sex with the more elaborated weapons and ornaments . When females compete with each another for males, it's usually the situations where males offer resources such as paternal care , food , or a suitable location to raise offspring.
