The technology and automation through techniques like artificial intelligence and robotics pose threat to jobs in many sectors where the tasks involving physical work and predictable actions have highest potential for automation and self direction.

The sectors like food services and accomodation where most of the tasks are predictable are more susceptible to automation, followed by manufacturing and agriculture sectors which are labour intensive and involve predictable physical movements. The jobs which involve a higher degree of decision making and those invoving higher expertise are less affected by the onslaught of technology and automation. Thus, the fields like education, healthcare delivery, professional services and management will be the least affected. The lower level jobs are more likely to be affected with these changes.

To deal with the uncertainty and potential threats of job loss, the employees need to invest in their skills and widen their knowledge and skill base so as to move to the relatively unaffected sectors, or move to the higher levels of hierarchy by upgrading their skills and competency levels. Other ways of dealing with the uncertainty can be in from of entrepreneurial ventures leading to self sufficiency.
