Question
A bank manager notices that by the time customers get to the teller, they seem irritated and impatient. She wants to investigate the problem further. So, she hires you to design a research project to figure out what is bothering the customers. Your task is to design two studies: one qualitative and one quantitative. (Important note: Make sure you understand the differences between qualitative and quantitative researches prior to participating in this discussion.)
1. Describe the two studies that you will suggest to the manager. Don't forget the following important information in the description: type of research, data to be collected, how to collect them, etc.
2. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each studies. Don't forget to provide arguments to support your thoughts.
3. Review others' ideas and provide your critical (but constructive) feedback with a focus on whether (or not) the type of research is correctly identified by the original author.
Explanation / Answer
Observation would be the first strategy that I would suggest to the manager. Observing the crowd and availability as well as behaviour of the crowd would be the most beneficial part for obtaining qualitative analysis of the specific incident. By having an analysis of the problems regarding using the machine as well as providing information to the organisation about availability of the total efficiency of the machine would be the most beneficial part for understanding the problem undefined
Another qualitative approach for improving the product service can be done by surveying. By properly providing feedback forms to the customers as well as integrating a feedback program into the teller machine would be the most appropriate way to get information from the customers regarding the problem they are facing using the machine.
Another approach include the quantitative analysis of peak hours as well as number of maximum active users on the machine. By having analysis an exact number of the users and the frequency of the users are the machine would help us to understand the best available solution for increasing the number of machines are trying out different or faster machines which could comprehend with the specific demand.
Using all of the approaches in combination would definitely enable me to understand the problem in a better way and to develop a more intuitive solution for the specific problem.
