A product’s packaging is referred to as a “Silent salesperson” because products are the main components of self-service marketing, where packaging plays an important role in determining the purchase decision of that product. In a normal grocery store, a customer passes about 500 items per minute. Hence, to gain the attention of the customer in that span of time where he decides to purchase the product, packaging play a very important role in the sale. Apart from packaging, attractive displays, hangers, point-of-purchases near the billing counter play an important role as well.

Healthier chocolate candy bars that are targeted at moms and children should have some of the places such as the vegetables counter, snacks counter, groceries counter, cosmetics counter and also the billing counter as the display shelfs with separate attention-seeking hangers showcasing these candy bars. There should also be a sample tasting counter near the vegetables counter which should allow the moms to taste the candy bar.

The packaging of the candy bar should be finely made so as to protect the bar from various external sources that damage the nutritional values of the bar. Effective packaging will help in communicating the proper message that the company wants to position itself as. This can be one of the strategies of the company that help the product to position itself in the market.

Packaging has an impact on the brand awareness among the potential consumers. Symbols and signs also play an important role in representing the brand among the consumers, symbols such as “especially for mom” “low-calorie candy bar” will attract the targeted consumers in making the purchase of the products.

The brand of chocolate candy bars will strike an emotional chord with the consumers provided that the brand managers put in enough efforts to design the packaging features accordingly. Generally, the products that are considered to be healthy and organic do not have an attractive packaging features to them, hence, one of the examples that is inferior in the candy bar industry would be that of Munch or milky bar which target the younger customers but fall short of living up to the expectations of the youngsters when it comes to packaging.
