I’d like to discuss the case of the Ford Pinto that happened right here in Detroit. You’ve read two articles directly addressing the case, and two others whose material is relatable to the issue.

Is it ever moral for a company, such as Ford, to perform cost-benefit analyses when lives are involved? I mean, think about it: insurers place dollar values on human lives all the time – otherwise they would go out of business. So, when is it morally permissible to assign a cash value to a human life, and when is it not morally permissible? Is it ever? What differentiates between the two cases of assigning a cash value to a human life and not assigning cash value?

In above case of ford the two issues are given.We have to analyse the in both ways.

Ford is very renowned company automobile sector.They are very much known for their global quality , service ,Environmental considerations , other standards etc

Now in above case as per my knowledge this human life & cost analysis is different point.First the company like Ford will not have such policies for their employees.In organizations Human lives & cost analysis are counted on different ground.First up all the ford needs to define,what are the points which are coming under human life.As they are saying about lives are involved.So what does this mean.Every organizations tries to develop some employee standards which are equally important from Employer as well Employee.

Next define the cost benefit analysis. Whether that cost benefit is of material ,facilities , etc

Now in above case , there will not be direct relationship of Employees & cost.See there is always cost focus for a Employees.But that is just correlated with only their performance .But when it comes to employees survival then organization like Ford will never think on this cost benefit analysis.

About the assignment of cash value to employees , yes this is very important that company should allocate the specific cash value to employees based on their performance.Which will them motivates every time.
