Explanation / Answer

1. When Jeffrey Swartz was CEO Timberland's stakeholder were seen as its consumers, partners, and everyone else on earth. This stakeholders map does contain stakeholder that aren't on the maps of other apparel companies because Timberland is including everyone and not focusing on a particular group of people. Branding and sustainability complement one another to enhance competitiveness because sustainable businesses do what's good for the company and the earth. In order for a brand to be seen as sustainable if their sustainability benefits are perceived as credible and noticeable by relevant consumers.

2. Timberland's strong commitment to sustainability created value for society and also helped the firm gain competitive advantages as a major footwear brand because they saw what their competitors were doing and they also got inspired by their declining profits and the stagnant economy to get them to fully practice and take on the part of wanting to take care of the earth through their brand. On top of both of these, they also were passionate about the sustainability of the environment.

3. The environmental uncertainty faced by firm's sending work overseas can be risky because each country has different things and they never know how the natives in that country are going to feel about their products. Timberland has over 200 stores in 15 countries they are spacing their stores and resources out which I think is smart for companies because they have flexibility since you aren't allowed to do certain things in every country. Firms can manage supply chains by not keeping all of their resources in one country it's smart to spread them out due to the fact that no country is the same and what you do in one country you may not be able to do in another country.

4. When VF first brought Timberland in 2011 the company's sales were doing bad it was at the same levels as they were in 2006. Today Timberland is flourishing with its new parent company last year their revenue rose more than 15%. Their operating profit was 13% better than the 8% when it was first brought. The integration of these two companies had allowed both of them to develop stronger sustainability practices. VF benefited from Timberland's sustainability practices because VF was interested into how Timberland managed to incorporate sustainability into its culture and business model. Timberland was able to help VF come up with more and better environmentally focused actions, ideas, and approaches than before. Timberland's emphasis on earth keeping helped its integration into the VF family of brands.
