Need-based theories describe individual efforts to meet needs. Manager has to identify people's need and make sure working environment satisfy there needs. Acquired-needs theory suggest that individuals possess stable and dominant motives to achieve, acquire power, or affiliate with others.
Content of power point presentation:-
Acquired Needs Theory it was proposed by David McClelland's. David Clarence McClelland was an American psychologist and was a professor at Harvard University for many years. He is noted for his work on motivation Need Theory.
Definition: This theory states that one's needs are acquired over time as a result of their experiences. And how a person's life experience changes individual need based on affiliation, achievement and need for power.
Factors affecting employee behavior and motivation are:-
(i) Need for Achievement - Those who have high need for achievement have a strong need to be successful. They try to perform things on themselves and find it difficult to delegate authority.
(ii) Need for Power - Those who have high need for power want to influence others and control the environment. These characteristic fits in the role of manager and leadership position.
(iii) Need for Affiliation - Those who have high need for Affiliation want to be liked and accepted by others. These people have a good communication skills and friendly behavior. They are concerned about how they are perceived by others.
Methods to improve employee morale and motivation based on Acquired Needs Theory are :-
(i) Motivating employees to meet deadlines.
(ii) Appreciating and allowing their brilliant ideas.
(iii) Providing rewards and recognition.
