Explanation / Answer

The most important global strategy lever would be products and services. Offering different products or services in different regions around the world will limit the ability of mass production. Not having a standardized product makes it more difficult to be globally competitive.

The least important lever is marketing. Certain products and services do not need marketing, because they are a necessity to certain people around the world. Being globally competitive needs a lot of advertising to establish brand names and credibility, but it is not the most important out of the five global strategy levers.

They view it as putting the other levers at the fore front of their strategy to emphasize the importance. FedEx understands they are viewed as a supply chain company, and are very successful in their business around the world. Putting the other four levers about allows them to focus on the areas where FedEx feels they need to improve.

Microsoft maybe trying to stay under the radar when it comes to their strategies. Not emphasizing competitive moves could be a competitive move they are making. Microsoft has always had a canny way of doing business, and that is why they are one of the most successful companies in the world.
