Group think is the pressure and resulting conformity that is often created within a group setting, particularly when it appears there is an overwhelming consensus in the group. 1. A bright student will always excel in his studies and even career.

a. Self serving bias- If you fail, it's the systems' fault; if you do good, it is your talent.
b. Self fulfilling prophecy- Often a bright student excels in his studies due to the confidence others have developed on him.
c. Halo effect- If one is good at one dimension, he/she is perceived to be good at other dimensions as well
Cognitive error could be:
a. Overgeneralization: Bright students deserve respect, because they are above others in terms of intellect.
b. Jump to conclusion: Others may believe that bright students are the best.
2. Group think can be powerful because people resonate the same thinking, which can inspire one to move from good to best or demotivate one to become from bad to worse.
3. Some tactics to avoid group think could be:
a. Put the fact to test.
b. Take opinion separately. Treat every opinion equally. If need be, provide incentive for unique thoughts.
c. Encourage debate, to get distinct opinions.
d. Group should comprise of people with different personalities.
e. Give time to reach to a conclusion. As time pass by people develop self realization and hence try to build their own opinions.
