You are assuming the role of the project manager for a company called SuperPacks to provide a new backpack product with a built-in refrigeration pouch and radio module. Your customer for this project is the U.S. Army, Ground Forces and Special Operations. As the project manager for your team, you will be submitting to your manager a project management report.

You have been asked to present this report to a group of managers, and should discuss your course of action for two unplanned events (below) that have occurred for SuperPacks. You will need to analyze the impact of these events in your project management report as a presentation; this can be PowerPoint, Prezi, or any presentation tool. Make sure you address the following questions in your presentation as you will be giving it to the management team.

Discuss your analysis on the following events:

It is discovered the refrigerated module is too large for the designed refrigerated backpack pouch. What is your course of action?

The subcontractor assigned to build the radio module for the backpack has shut down. What is your course of action?

Discuss four areas affected by these unexpected events. Three of the areas of the project affected by the events should include changes to budget, human capital, and impact to schedule. Identify one additional area affected by these events.

Explanation / Answer

Answer:

It is discovered the refrigerated module is too large for the designed refrigerated backpack pouch. Our course of action is as below

We need to explore the quick possibility to have small size refrigerated module for the back-pack, so it can be added in the backpack for the army personal.

We need to organize the quick fix for this refrigerated issue so that backpacks can be used as per time plan.

We need to organize for back-up plan, in case we could not able to fix the refrigerated issue.

The subcontractor assigned to build the radio module for the backpack has shut down. Our courses of action are as below

We need to identify the second supplier who can build the radio module for the backpack, as quickly as possible.

We need to ensure that the lead time and schedule of the backpack should not be disturbed / affected.

We need to keep third supplier also in case we face the issueswith second supplier, as a backup plan.

The four areas affected by these unexpected events are as below

Changes to budget: These changes will have impact on budget, as we may be required to have higher budget for organizing these changes in the back pack for the project plan.

Human capital: The Human capital will not be ready and will not be OK to support the army project as they cannot execute the project unless they have the in built refrigerated and radio system. Human capital will not be of any use for the project.

Impact to schedule: These issues will have impact on the schedule and the project schedule will get delayed due to these issues in the backpack.

Impact to project plan: These issues will have impact on the project plan and the project will get delayed due to these issues in the backpack.
