Question
Written Assignment: Bad News Announcement—Fringe Benefits When your organization moved to its building in Dallas three years ago, you negotiated a contract with the Universal Self-Parking garage, a half-block away, to provide free parking to all employees at Grade 11 or above. Your rationale was that these managerial employees often work long hours and that convenient, free parking was a justifiable fringe benefit. Universal has just notified you that when your contract expires in three months, the monthly fee will increase by 15 percent. Given the state of the economy and your organization’s declining profits, you feel that not only can you not afford the 15 percent increase but you must, reluctantly, discontinue the free parking altogether. Therefore, beginning January 1, all employees must locate and pay for their own parking. Your organization continues to promote ride sharing, and the receptionist has copies of the city bus schedule—a bus stops a block from your building. (Source: Ober, Scott. Contemporary Business Communication. Boston, MA: Houghton Mifflin Co., 7th ed.) Write a memo to these managerial employees giving them the information. Use memorandum format with the headings Memo to: From: Date: Subject: Make sure that you use the inductive (indirect) approach containing only 3 paragraphs that were discussed earlier in this lecture. Upload assignment as a Microsoft Word document to the drop box provided. Be mindful to carefully proofread your work for correct English usage and avoid abbreviations, slang, all caps, and texting language.

Answer to the question:
MEMO
To: All the employees at Grade 11 and above. From: Vice-President (HR) Date: October 17, 2017 Subject: Discontinuation of free parking perk at Universal self-parking garage. _________________________________________________________________________________
This organization has always been committed to provide the employees with all the possible benefits for their betterment. One such benefit being the free parking facility been extended to employees at Grade 11 and above, for which, this company negotiated a contract with Universal Self-Parking garage three years ago. The said contract is about to expire in the coming three months from now and Universal has sent notice for increase in the monthly parking fees by 15 percent, after expiry of the contract.
Given the declining financial status and reduction in the profits of the company, the said increase of 15 percent in the monthly parking fees is not feasible at all and will be a financial burden. Due to such constraints, the Management has decided to do away with the free parking perk from 1st of January onwards. The employees are hereby advised to find their own parking spaces and pay for their parking from the said date onwards.
This organization has always encouraged ride sharing or pooling and it does the same now also, which will utlimately reduce the expenditure of employees on fuel and parking. Further, it will be good for the environment also, as less pollution will be done and less parking space will be required. Most of you may also be aware that there is a bus stop a block away from our building. You can make the use of this public utility also and the schedule of the city bus is available at the reception. The Management values the efforts of all of it's employees, but the financial constraints is forcing the organization to take this step. The support of all the employees is expected in such conditions and situations and company hopes that the employees will continue to work with the same dedication and commitment as they were doing earlier.
