During cell division of the animal cells, the daughter cells share the cytoplasmic material and get physically separated by a process called cytokinesis. In an animal cell, cytokinesis is carried out by pinching the plasma membrane inward via the contractile ring.

Whereas plant cells have cell wall in addition to plasma membrane, so cytokinesis is not possible in plant cells. As an alternative to this, plant cells develop new cell wall and plasma membrane at the middle of the parent cell.
