Explanation / Answer

Dear friend, PLEASE RATE THIS ANSWER. Also, do not rate answers copied from this. That will waste my time and effort. Internet standards are set by an organization known as IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force). The standards are called Request for Comments (RFCs). Different networks are connected using routers. The old name for it is a gateway. Packets are units of data in the IP layer, whereas frames are units of data in the MAC layer. There will be only 1 packet throughout, but there will be 47 frames. A switch operates in the MAC layer, whereas a router operates in the IP layer. Application layer standards are needed to ensure compatibility between software developed by different people. In 1995, NSFNET was decommissioned, removing the last restrictions on the use of the Internet to carry commercial traffic.
