For example, by studying the Union Carbide case of 1984, a company can analyse how to prevent a disaster and if the disaster has occured then how to do the damage control. The Union Carbide is a perfect example of how not to deal with such a disaster.

By studying historical safety events, potential hazards and risks will be identified so that proper hazard control measures can be put in place. The study will also be valuable while preparing the emergency plan of action.

2. Safety and health hazards can result in the loss of human health. The loss of human health can be both physical as well as psychosocial. Physical hazards can include injuries, loss of hearing etc, while performing job related tasks. Physical hazards reduces the capability of employees, thus resulting in the loss of their productivity for the organization. Psychosocial hazards affects the mental well being of the employees and this also can result in the loss of productivity.
