Article review
Interviewing for a new position is a tough situation for most people. When looking to advance we often need to go through the application, resume and interview process, however we have become comfortable within the position and company we have been at often for years. Becoming comfortable doesn’t necessarily mean that you are happy or having your needs met. Needs such as pay and general feeling of worth may have changed and the need to look into other positions becomes a focus. There are many tips or theories to what is the best ways to interview and they can vary as well. The article I am reviewing I believe hits on target for my beliefs as to what is good practice for interview “behaviors”.
When applying for a new position one should always have the reasons of feeling why this is what they feel is best determined so that they can present an image of knowing their goals and needs and how to move toward reaching them. This would include the following information:
-- know your strongest skills and qualifications not only for the specific position but also in general know your skills in life that you may be able to offer.
-- know how your skills meet the requirements of the job.
-- many supervisors ask you what your strengths and weaknesses are, not just in consideration of the position open but also in life.
-- knowing your education and training experience with ease is important to being ready to offer as qualification.
-- be prepared for any question the interviewer could possibly ask as anything is game.
-- look into the company and what they do and there mission as a business.
-- know at least a couple questions that you would like to ask in regards to the position or the company.
-- always arrive early 15-20 min.
-- dress well regardless of the position applied for, even a janitor position should be interviewed with nice clothes not the clothes you would wear to the workday.
-- try to relax.
-- maintain eye contact, and respond with a nod or brief direct response to each opportunity.
--bring extra copies of your resume and any certifications you may have acquired.
These are the tips that I feel are the most important that were mentioned in the article I chose to review and I feel that these are applicable across the board for any position that could be applied for. I agree completely with the article when it states that according to psychologists our words are only 30-35% of what is communicated while facial expressions are about 50% of what is communicated. Therefore one must be attentive and interested in what is being discussed and show both to the interviewer through speech as well as genuine facial expressions as applicable.
Explanation / Answer
It is important to practice before an interview, with a friend or relative this way you will know what kind of tone to use. There are companies that enjoy doing group interviews where you introduce yourself and then there is a case that you need to solve as a group, the answer is not important, the important thing is that the members recognize you as a leader. Also, investigate about the company, is not all about them making question you should ask as well to they can see you are interested in knowing not only of the position but on the company as well.
Always drees to impress, arrive on time and bring your resume even though you have send it before, chances are the person doing the interview hasn’t seen it at all.
