Question
the blue parrot is an expensive restaurant in midtown open only for dinner. Entrees are set at a fixed price of $42. In a typical month the restaurant will serve 3,600 entrees. Customers or waiters send back 8% of the entrees because of a defect. 40% of these returned dishes must be prepared again and they cannot be reworked. But the rest of returned dishes (60% of them) can be reworked. How many total entrees (including the ones that are returned to kitchen) would the restaurant need to prepare in a month.
Explanation / Answer
the total number of entrees = 3600
number of defective entrees =8% of 3600 = 288 entrees
the number of dishes that can be reworked = 60% of 288 =172.8 i.e 173 entrees can be reworked
the numbr of entrees to be preparedagain = 288-173 = 115
therefore the total number of entrees that would be requied = total number of entrees + reworked entrees
=3600+115 =3715 entrees
