US Air force (USAF) is an aerial service branch of the US Armed force that includes Army, Navy, Marine Corps and coast guards. It is a part of the American uniformed service. Initially it was formed as a part of the US Army. But later on in 1947 it was established as a separate branch. USAF is headed by the civilian Secretary of Air force. He further reports to the secretary of Defense.

Prime functions of this this department includes Air and Space Superiority, Nuclear deterrence Operations, Command and Control, Personnel Recovery, Cyberspace security, Global Integrated ISR etc.

All the functions are briefly described below:

Air superiority: It refers to the level of dominance and ability to conduct the operations that one force gets over the others in the air battle.

Space superiority: It refers to the level of dominance and ability to conduct the operations that one force gets over the others in the space.

Nuclear Deterrence Operations: As per this function the air force maintains and secures the nuclear forces of the country.

Command and control: The USAF plans, directs, coordinate and control the arrangement of the personnel, equipment and other facilities, and procedures.

Global Integrated ISR: The USAF performs the synchronization and integration of the planning and operations of the assets, sensor, exploitation, and dissemination system across the globe.

The types of hardware and software used by the USAF include circuit card assembly (CCA) of multilayer Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), Ground Control Station and Air Vehicle Central Computer Software, and Turkish Mobile Radar Complexes (TMRC).

The US Air force has built effective partnership with international airmen and other actors. They became successful in developing, guiding and sustaining partnerships that are mutually beneficial. It has successfully collaborated with foreign partners and domestic partners including foreign governments, militaries and populations as well as US government departments, agencies, industry, and NGOs.
