International health policy concern - Provision of safe and clean drinking water for everyone.

This issue is very important in the current scenario of lack of clean water to areas with lack of infrastructure or capital to ensure safety of everyone in the community. This issue has been recognized by the WHO (World Health Organization).

Role of international community in combating this issue - The international community is participating and contributing through the WHO programmes by providing infrastructure and cheaper technologies to areas with lack of clean water. In 2014, WHO established International Scheme to evaluate waterhouse treatment technologies.

Key strategies - Various NGO and initiatives have been established as part of the strategy to combat this problem on the grassroots level. One of the organization is CARE which provides clean water technologies to areas which are effected. Besides these, it provides training to local people in establishing a community which can represent people and put forward their demands for safe and clean water at the national level.

Key barriers - Lack of funding and awareness are the key barriers to the strategies. People in the developed world take the clean water for granted and do not have an understanding of the issues being faced for clean water provision by the people in the rest of the world. The lack of funding hampers research and provision of new technologies to combat this problem.

Key recommendations - Even though several Hollywood actors are acting as brand ambassadors of these initiatives and increasing awareness, there is a need for greater influence. A single dollar spent in provision of clean water gives a return of four dollars to the economy. The corporations should be encouraged to participate in these initiatives as part of the CSR programs.
