Scenario: Assume you are project manager in the HR department of a large manufacturing business. This business will be the controlling partner in a merger. You are to develop plans for merging the two human resource departments, which will involve layoffs. Officially, instructions are to retain the best people, while unofficially the boss would like employees of the controlling firm to receive preference.

1. What are the ethical issues in this situation?

2. What criteria might you find it necessary to use in making your decisions?

3. What are your personal feelings about how to prioritize individual employees in a situation like this?

Explanation / Answer

1. it is quiet natural, the acquirer have got higher weightage and the other got lower weightage. here i will prepare two alternatives; i prepare performance report of each employee of my organization, the one who is above a bench mark he will be retain and the others will fire.

2. here establishment of bench mark is more important, for this i will consider the employees performance interms of output, attendance levels, absenteesm, effectiveness at the work place, achievements at the work, how far he is changing organizations and so on.

3. in this conditions, i would like to do the same what i said above. i wont ready to bear a normal person in my team. i need an extraordinary person and those only retain the remaining will be removed.
