Question
On the other hand, Heller was happily surprised by Hollywood’s version of Catch-22. Heller had prepared himself for a movie that exploited the sexual aspects of the novel and glossed over his theme. However, just because he was surprised does not mean there are not significant differences between the movie and the novel. In the film version, some characters are portrayed differently and changes have been made to the storyline. Do you believe that these differences help or hinder the delivery of Heller’s anti-establishment message? Provide examples to support your opinion.
Explanation / Answer
Ideally it would depend. At the outset it looks like heller's anti-establishment message was completely based on the novel as heller was surprised at the hollywood's version of cathc-22. However there are notably significant differences between the movie and the actual novel. These differences would either help or hinder the delivery of heller's anti-establishment message basis what the actual message is, how it is delivered, what are the facts it is based upon etc.
