Five Factor Model is widely examined theory of five broad dimensions used by some psychologists to describe the human personality and psyche. The five factors are as following:
1. Extroversion: It is characterized by sociability, talkativeness and high amount of emotional expressiveness. People who are high in extroversion can gain energy in social situation and peolple who are low spend energy in social settings.
2. Agreeableness: These include trust, kindness, affection and other pro social behaviour. People who are high in this is more cooperative while who are low is more competitive.
3. Conscientiousness: Features include in this have high level of thoughtfulness, good impulse control and goal directed behaviours. People high in this are more organized and mindful of details.
4. Neuroticism: This trait is characterized by emotional instability, moodiness and sadness. people high in that experience anxiety, sadness and irritability while low persons are more stable.
5. Openness: These include imagination and insight, those high in that have a broad range of interest.
Leadership effectiveness and emergence represent two level of analysis. Leadership emergence is a within group phenomenon, that is a leader is developed within a group. Leadership efectiveness refers to a leader ability to influence his or her subordinates. The relationship of five traits to leadership pooling across the leadership criteria. Conceptually, both leadership effectiveness and emergence are distinct constructs. Operationally both are measured via ratings or by observations of others, which means both represents individual perception of leadership.
