Question

In three or four sentences, respond to the comment below. A comprehensive needs analysis that aligns with the competency model is important to successful and relevant training as it keeps the training focused on what is actually needed. Training needs to remain focused to real work situations and needs and not something that is brought about by the “good idea fairy” or “to keep up with the Jones”. According to Blanchard and Thacker (2013) competency models are created to help companies identify the necessary factors for employee high performance. By performing a comprehensive needs analysis the trainers would be able to identify any performance gaps and/or competency gaps to make the training successful and relevant. The more training is tied to competency model and fulfil actual needs the better the trainee and leaderships buy-in. Also, if the training has clear and measurable ROI targets maybe the leadership could see the impact training has had and alter their perceptions of training (Kaminski & Lopes, 2009).
