The regional manager's job involves overseeing and coordinating the operations of a large portion of the western United States. On Friday afternoon, your committee finally makes its selection and plans to announce its choice on Monday morning. Out of a number of talented managers, it selected John Deer, John's peers often used the words "brilliant" and "genius" to describe him. He held a consistent recorded of excellence in every task that he accomplish for the company. A wuiet, polite man, john rarely attended social functions, and when he did, he brought his wife. When you arrive at your office on Monday morning, you are surprised to get a call from john's wife Edith, whom you've never met. Her voice sounds shaky, and you can hardly hear her. She says: I'm sorry to be a bother, but I needed to talk to you. My husband John has been tense lately because he, really wants the regional manager's job. Anyway, last night John gave me a very bad beating. Our two children saw the whole thing and were terrified. I took the children and ran out of the house. We are now staying at the Chicago shelter for battered women. Over the years, John has hit me on mummer good man, but he's very high strung. Anyway, the reason why I am callingis to beg you to give the job to John. May be then he'll feel happier and things will be better for our family. The phone call is so bizarre that you decide to check out Mrs. Deer's story. You call the Chicago shelter to find out if she is indeed there. The shelter director says that I is against its policy to give out the identify of clients or any information on them. Then in the background you hear some confusion as Mrs. Deer grabs the phone from the director Mrs. Deer tells the director to get on the otherline and demands that she answer your questions. The director protests, but does as she is asked. She reports that Mrs. Deer and her two children, ages 2 and 6. Were admitted to the shelter last night at midnight after being treated at City Hospital Mrs. Deer had a broken rib and bruises on the face arms, and neck that were apparently caused by a blunt object. It is now 10:30 am. The formal announcement's scheduled for noon. At this point, John may already know that he got the job. You will have to put your personal feelings aside and consider a number of issues before you make any decisions about John. Since Mrs.Deer has no plans to press charges against her husband you put aside legal considerations and think about your ethical obligations in this situation. Given that there is no legal action takes against an individual, is the way that person treats his or her otr other family member relevant in hiring and promise decisions? If you were the manager in this case, how would you fill your moral obligations to all the stakeholders who are involved in it? When do you think the manager's moral obligation to John Deer and his wife and children begin and end?

1. I strongly believe that the way a person treats his/her spouse and other family members is relevant and should be considered when making decisions regarding hiring or promoting that person. This is because the way a person bonds with his/her spouse and family members, the way a person treats them (by giving them love and respect or by disregarding them and ill treating them) is a reflection of that person's values, ethos, personality and attitudes. A person who ill treats his/her spouse and family members might be having trust issues and might be having power imbalances. The person might not be stable emotionally.

In simple words, how a person treats his/her spouse and family members tell a lot about that person's character. Personality conflicts and weaknesses in character lead's a person to ill treat spouse and family members. The person's character is filled with a spirit of domination, conflict and even jealousy. This personality trait will negatively affect a person's ties in professional life eventually. Even in professional life, bonds and ties with coworkers and colleagues are an important aspect. A person having trust issues will not be able to develop proper and stable bonds in the workplace. The person's personality conflicts will come to the fore at some point in time, leading to trust issues. All this will hamper workplace productivity as the person may start create conflicting situations at workplace also.

Thus how a person treats his/her spouse and family members is highly relevant and should be considered when making hiring and promotion decisions.
