A global organization that i have taken is Adidas AG. The company is a multinational corporation that manufactures, markets and sells sports shoes, clothing and accessories. The company is headquartered in Germany and its operations is present across the globe.
Adidas treats the world as a single market and thus it offers standard products and services in different countries. Adidas tries to use the natural resources and capabilities of the country in which it is expanding its presence. The company's global strategy is to provide its management with greater capability to make use of globalization opportunities. Mike Peng, in the book, offers four strategic choices for global corporations - home replication, localization, global standardization and transnational. Adidas AG is following the global standardization strategy and treats the world as a single market. This has helped the company to globalize with optimum use of resources.
In the quest to expand its operations on a global scale, Adidas adopted resource based considerations when entering foreign markets. The company sources products from more than 600 suppliers around the world. To leverage the resource based considerations, Adidas has entered into new markets on the back of outsourcing production and manufacturing. The planning and designing of all products is done in house at Adidas, only the actual manufacturing is outsourced.
Now, Adidas has a strong brand across the globe. However its strategy is to focus on availability, convenience and extensiveness of product offering. To do this all new stores in different parts of the world are now owned by Adidas. The company is focusing on opening more company owned stores after the recent Reebok scandal.
