The goal of the discussion with the employee is to confront the issue(s) before it affects the work environment or the employee’s overall work performance. A manager’s role is to establish and maintain performance norms in the workplace. In these scenarios, the assumption is that the supervisor has already confirmed the situation or behavior that is described. This exercise provides an opportunity to practice and become comfortable with confronting behavioral issues in the workplace.
1. The warehousing operation where you work recently instituted a “No Smoking” policy in the facility. All employees were notified of the policy change but it was not well-received. As you walk down aisle B in the warehouse, you see a cloud of smoke and then see Chris running to aisle A. You need to talk to Chris.
2. One of the office managers comes to you and complains about Pat’s unpleasant body odor and how difficult it is to work in the same area. You agree to talk to Pat.
3. The sales department manager at an upscale store has talked to you about the appearance of some of your sales clerks—particularly Alex. Alex is sporting on his forearm a new, large tattoo of a devil eating a rat. You agree that some customers might find it offensive and that it should somehow be covered up. You need to talk to Alex.
4. Sidney has recently been missing work. She tends to call in at the last minute, and there seems to be a pattern developing of Mondays and Fridays. Sidney has been in rehabilitation in the past for alcohol abuse. You need to talk to Sidney.
5. It is near Christmas, and you notice that within one day the office supply cabinet has been conspicuously depleted of tape, scissors, and packing materials. Other than you, the administrative assistant, Lesley, is the only one with the key to the cabinet. You need to talk to Lesley.

Q ) A ) As a manager , I need to explain the importance of work ethics and the need for ethical behaviour in the work place.Its manager's responsibility to maintain and promote work ethics.Manager has to clearly explain the dangerous effects,when the warehouse catches fire and the company can attain severe loss.This can even end up in closing the warehouses too.Because of his act , around hundred of employees can loose their job or even worst case, can loose their lives. A sincere warning must have to be issued.The employees can smoke entirely outside the premises.

Q ) 2. A ) The problem here is a very sensitive and very delicate issue. As a manager I cannot command or warn him in this aspect, but as a friend, I can suggest him ways to better his condition. Its a very uncomfortable situation to explain the problem and tell him the difficulty others are facing to work with him. I can suggest him ways like : taking fragnant bath oils and rose waters .This may help him biuld up his confidence and helps him perform better.

Q ) 3. A ) Tatoos and piercing are personal aspects of any individual .The management cannot control and terminate an employee stating a reason of bad tatoo. The manager can explain the current situation and may create awareness of the customers feelings to Alex. Manager must be strict enough to put up a dress code to such employees.This makes it comformtable to the customers as well.

A ) An employee who is unreliable , irregular and irresponsible like Sidney, is a threat to teh company's quality in hiring adequate candidates.This behaviour of Sidney may cause demotivation and irritating to her peers.And regarding the aspect of alcoholic abuse, she may be protected by ADA policy . Supervisors and managers must be aware of and be educated of such policies and rules that is beneficial for both the employee and the organization.
