Question
Jan Davis, Communications Manager for Kingfisher Retailers, was stunned. Megan Drake, president of Kingfisher had just announced during an employee teleconference broadcast by satellite to over forty stores that she believed Kingfisher was losing its competitive edge in the electronics market and would have to engage in significant restructuring. Jan knew, of course, that revenues for the last two quarters had not met expectations and that Megan was upset. But to announce her displeasure and hint a major changes without a plan in place was dangerous for Kingfisher and for Megan herself. At the end of the conference, Megan knew she had made a mistake. She told Jan she was tired and angry at the lack of action from her senior vice presidents. She knew she should not have announced her concerns to the employees but had done so in an uncharacteristic fit of temper. Megan asked Jan what she should do next. Questions: 1. If you were Jan, what would you suggest? 2. What should Megan do next with regard to her senior leadership? 3. What happens when anger, fatigue, or a host of other circumstances contributes to individuals saying publicly something they immediately regret? 4. Should Megan hold another teleconference to put her concerns in context? Why? Why
Explanation / Answer
1. Morally i supports Megan and i said the same to her. what ever she said that is true, do not bother about past. but the way you presented it is may not expected by Megan team. some times it happens, after all we are humans, making mistakes is our common, but rectifying and resolving them is must.
2. the senior leaders or managers may question her about the issue, she could have a pleasing voice and convince them what you want to inform to your team and to the followers. and assuer them these kind of actions will not repeat in future.
3. people will lose their self consiousness while they were in anger, fatigue and mentally imbalanced. once we lost our sense everything will be out of control. with this instead of we controls the environment and situations, those external conditions and environment controls us. we reacts to those aspects. so, one should not take any decisions while they were in anger, foregiving is the one more human characteristic, only we can do it. so, do not take anything to heart, everything and anything is common in life. we need to move further in any circumstances irrespective of any issues.
4. no, there is no need of particular and specific conference for this, just put an internal mail to the employees about your concern.
