Question
Somebody help!! I don't understand these reactions. I DONT UNDERSTAND THE D2O part. CAN YOU DRAW THESE STRUCTURES!
What is
a) The non nucleotide prooducts obtained when L malate is added to a D20solution containing malic enzyme and NADP+............
I know the answer is Pyruvate + CO2 ( where does the D2O come in) WHere does the D come into place.
b) The major product (s) formed when fructise 1, 6 bisphosphate is incubated with aldolase in D2O
I know the answer is dihydroxyacetone phosphate and glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate again...Where does the D2O come into place
Can you draw these two new products structure with the D2O!
Explanation / Answer
D2O refers to heavy water, a form of water, which ocntains hydrogen isotope deuterium (symbolized D) rather than protium (symbolized H). It is physically and chemically similar to H2O. It may change the reaction kinetics but cannot alter the reaction or products formed. Irrespective of H2O or D2O as solvent, the same products are formed.
