Question

If Congress passed a law affecting products liability actions relating to single-engine airplanes that among other provisions, sets an 18-year statute of repose, and Cessna resumed production of several models of single-engine airplanes which had been stopped several years earlier, in part because of products’ liability exposure. Is this law ethical? Was this needed legislation, or was this a special favor given to one industry that makes a product known to lead to death and injury? How does the fact that flight training schools were unable to replace the single-engine planes they were using for training with newer ones affect your analysis? Analyze and evaluate the various issues presented while arguing and debating the connections between business, law, politics, and ethics.

Explanation / Answer

ethics are completely different, and they will be differ from one nation/religion/place to other. for example killing animal is acceptable with a name of game is acceptable in one religion where as it is prohibited in others. so, we can not decide an act or work based on ethics, because they are not uniform.

when it comes to single engine planes, this kind of transportation carries higher risk to the passengers as well as to the companies also. machine always have uncertainty, no one knows at what time it is going to be fail, so one should have alternative to this. with this obligation only flights were running two engines. if any technical problem ecnountered to the main engine, the alternative one will be used at that time.

of course here political pressure may be there in this regulation, but ultimately it is the responsibility of government to take and implement those decisions which provides benefits to people, not hurt or damage them. of course flight training schools may start to train pilots based on this aspect, but they carries fear in this action. becasue they knows the reality and the problems associated with the issue.

and business people always looks for their self benefit, but if they missed the obligations of other stakeholders to their firm, they can not survive for a long time in the market. it should not forget the safety of people, the obligations towards society and the environmental aspects also. a firm should consider economic (profit) aspects, social (people) aspects and environmental (planet) aspects to run a business without any interruptions.
