In response to an ad in the local newspaper, Rachel submitted an application for a firefighter position with the Middlebury Fire Department, but her application was rejected by the Fire Department because she did not meet the Fire Department’s minimum physical standards that require applicants to be at least 5’4’ and weigh at least 120 pounds. Was the Fire Department’s rejection of Rachel’s application proper? How might the Middlebury Fire Department modify its standards to avoid this issue? As per my opinion, every organisatiin has some rules and regulations which they have to follow for selection of their candidates and they are often seen very strict while following those rules. In the question above alss Rachel who applied for a fire fighter position didi not meet the complete requirements of the job therfore rejection of her application was also proper as per the rues and regulations. But her height and weight was at teh border only. It was not so less that department has co pletely rejected it by applying filter on height and weight. I think fire department should update its standards. Weight requirement about 100 pounds and height about 5 should be also ok. Additionaly this should not be the only method to select a fire fighter. There should check medical fittness also and practical tests should be there to select right candidate. There should be complete process yes. satrting steps can be weight and height but there should be some margins also or they may set priorities like If there are 2 candidates and single vacancy then candidiate near to weight and height requirement can go to next step.
