Explain what disaster(s) you might experience and what plans you would put in place to protect yourself, your possessions, and your loved ones. How can you prepare yourself so that you do not lose access to finances, insurance information, medical records or medication, or contact with loved ones during a disaster? Explain any system or process you used to generate your plan. View the FEMA site for input and guidance as needed.

Explanation / Answer

My residential area falls under the category of those areas that are prone to earthquakes. Thus, I have to prepare myself and my family with respect to the any disaster related to the earthquake. As far as my plan is concerned, I have opted for a residential building that is earthquake resistant and owns all emergency facilities that is required during such disasters.

Though, at my own level, I all plan will following initiatives:

1.    Use of emergency exit to go into an open area with our beloved one as the very first step

2.    Keeping valuables such as cash, jewelries and documents in bank lockers and other safe places where they are guarded properly on 24X7 basis.

3.    Buying insurance plan that can give complete coverage against all losses caused due to the above mentioned disaster

4.    Using more than one location to put my valuables so that I can get access to a few of them at least.

5.    Using cloud technology / Google drive to keep my important documents such as educational certificates, medical records / history / driving license online that can be accessed by myself and my family members from anywhere.

6.    Using long battery life cell phone to keep updated with my other family members while also keeping power bank and portable internet card. It will help in contacting my family members in any emergency situation.

7.    Maintaining first aid box / medicines to take care of any medical emergency at the beginning before helping hands arrive to us.

8.    Keeping stock of water and long lasting ready made food that can be consumed when such disaster takes place.

Above initiatives, I would like to take as a part of my plan. But, during a disaster, no plan is complete and enough. I have planned above initiatives on the basis of understanding as well as my readings / research online in the past regarding the disaster management post earthquake. The website mentioned in the question is also referred. Though, no any formal software or application is used to prepare my plan.
