You work for the human resources department at Regional. The hospital attorney is preparing for a news conference regarding the termination of Mr. Fused. In an effort to help the attorney, you draft justifications for an "at-will" termination of a hospital employee. What are your reasons for supporting this policy? Your job is to convince the public that this is a necessary and useful policy.
Explanation / Answer
The termination of the employee has been for a profound reason. This reason does not fall under the category of illegal discrimination based on colour, gender, origin, disability etc. Mr Fused who has been an employer with our hospital for the past 5 years was unable to follow instructions. This had got to do with the quality of work which was getting affected. It is important for the employee to follow instructions at work that go hand in hand with the efficient functioning of Regional hospital.
We have specifically provided numerous instructions and pointed out everytime the instructions were not followed. It has also been stated clearly in the subject book of our employees which is a signing statement between our workers and the company that it is necessary to follow the rules of the hospital and it has been acknowledged by signing the form.
Mr Fused was instructed against the situation he is getting into by not following the instructions. However, these warnings were repeatedly ignored by Mr Fused causing us to go ahead and act upon the termination.
