Question

Complete Exercise 4.3: Writing A Vision Statement for your change initiative due in Week 8, and then post your vision statement.

Here is an overview of my Change Initiative:

I had just left an employer after 18 years of diligent Service where I served as a mid-level manager. I had moved to a new job where I was a contracted employee at a financial institution. I was therefore not a Full-Time employee and furthermore, I worked at the lowest Level. I saw a lot of Manager level things being conducted wrongly and unprofessionally, but considering my position I could not say anything. It was a total culture shock. I had trouble adjusting to this new environment but I had no choice. The situation took a toll on me as I felt like I was in hell. Nevertheless I had to let go the previous lifestyle and I have now adjusted to my job. I consider this a watershed because I now love my job so much that I encourage many more people to join the institution. I even have shares in the institution and I work hard to ensure that the company prospers. However, this has come with a lot of struggle as I had to forget my old life style and cope with the new situation.

William Bridges who was a change consultant came up with the Transition Model which was based on transition. According to Gallagher & Doherty (2007) the model does not focus on change but rather on transition. The two terms are very dissimilar as transition refers to what goes on in an individual’s mind when they undergo change whereas change refers to what people go through even though they may not like act. Transition Model concentrates on transition which normally happens slowly whereas change occurs quickly. There are three phases of change in the Transition Model that individuals undergo as they undergo change. The first phase is known as ending while the second stage is known as The Neutral Zone and the third stage is known as The New Beginning. I underwent Bridges stages of transition during the watershed.

Explanation / Answer

A vision statement should always be small. It should be as precise as possible

The ideal vision statement could be -

" To be a honest, empathetic and an impactful person who is recognized within the organization. I am committed in growing as a person who aspires to become a leader and become an inspiration to the people around me. My mission is to be a part of the management team and become a strength and a role model to many others who are deprived of the dignity in their job positions".
