Design for reliability is not a very new concept. It is using by the manufacturing organizations from a very long time. It is the set of tools related to the product and process design. With the help of these tools we minimize the whole life cycle cost of the product and try to make customer fully satisfy with the reliability of the product during the whole life of the product. It has engineering tools which have a hierarchy process to use by which we make the product reliable. Now the question arises that why every manufacturing organization deploying this process. So the answer is that every manufacturing want to give the customer satisfaction by reliability of product. It is a systematic engineering program that only concentrates on the reliability of product.

The engineering section of organization deploys many resources in manufacturing of products. The main aim behind to deploy the resources are to satisfy the customer and make the reliability of product. So it is clear that in order to make a profit, the product of the organization must be reliable. To make reliable product, best scientific methods must be apply on that. Organization should fix the parameters to determine the reliability of product so that to compare the performance of the product with the already fixed parameters of performance. This process must begin with the designing of the product and must be continue with the whole development cycle. If the product is reliable then it will accept by the customer and the company makes profit.

This is the proactively designing of products to optimize all the manufacturing functions of the product, fabrication and testing of product shipping and service after sales and also to assure the best quality, reliability and customer satisfaction.

The main advantage of design for manufacturability is that it can reduce the cost of product, make reliable product and also gives satisfaction to customers. Before the commercial manufacturing every company makes the sample product and after making this, company test the product on different parameters. Organization tests that product on different parameters like the reliability, quality, defects, customers’ satisfaction etc. If the product fails to satisfy these parameters then engineering section again design the product to pass all the parameters. After passing all the parameters, the organization makes a ready for manufacturing product. If the product passed all the parameters then organization assumes that it will able to make the profit in the competitive market.

Design for sustainability is the process of designing the physical objects that fulfill the principals of social and economic sustainability. The main target of this theory is to remove the environmental impact related to manufacturing of product. So to design the sustainable product organization requires the renewable resources which have a very minimum impact on the environment. With this process the customer will connect with the organization’s product with the natural environment. Designing of sustainable product helps to support the environment.
