The points made in this video are very valid. I have always wondered about complacency and urgency. Some people do not know what urgency is when it comes to work or their personal life. Kotter mentions in the video that the sense of urgency is “a combination of thoughts and feelings and actions or behavior”. It was also mentioned in the video that urgency usually comes from management which I agree with totally. However, sometimes management may say that something is urgent and you wonder because what they want you to do within a given time does not necessarily warrant urgency. They sometimes ask you to drop what you are doing because they believe that what they are asking you to do should be done right away. If it is not done immediately, then it can be viewed as complacency, which may not be the case, but you believe that there is more time to handle the situation. On the other hand, becasue there are many people that have no sense of urgency at all and this should really be something to train employees about so that organizations can be more efficient. Maybe the training would help to know how to determine urgency. Management could also learn how to measure the level of urgency as one technique on how to handle urgency.
