Question

HOW WOULD YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE WITHIN 200 WORDS AND 1 APA SOURCE? ................. In the position as a leader you take on many challenges. In leadership the individual that is a superior over others, who gets put in a position to make decisions and judgments over others the text say, “psychology size has special relevance for people in authority positions (Manning & Curtis, 2012).” In any job where there is an employee and a superior using the Abuse of Psychological Size with a one-way communication will always present tension. The text gives three problems that one-way communication develops: 1. People may be reluctant to say or do anything that might offend the powerful figure. 2. People may become dependent on the leader to make all the decisions. 3. People may become resentful of the leader. (Manning & Curtis, 2012) This will not work in the favor of the leader. Leaders have a lot of responsibilities; so having to make all the decision causes a huge load to be on the leader. Leaders should also have a good communication line between them and others. The worse thing a leader can have is for everyone to be against them. Manning and Curtis (2012) describes the for leaders to avoid the abuse of psychological size and the also give reason on how to develop two-way communication by; High-status position. Use of terminal statements so that no disagreement is possible. Formal, distant manner. Know-it-all, superior attitude. Commanding physical appearance. Power to make decisions. Use of sarcasm and ridicule. Job competence. Cruel and punishing remarks. Ability to express oneself. Interrupting and shouting at others. Public criticism. These are all perfect examples of what has to be recognized by a leader. Leaders should try to minimize all ways that might be degrading to another person, and convey a more even line of communication. I was a professional basketball player for 9 years overseas and I tried to make my presents as a leader felt overtime to the different teams that I enter. I encountered a couple of teams where I came in and there was already conflict amongst the entire team. For example I entered a team in Argentina. This team had the coach of the team who is ultimately the leader of the team and on the basketball there are usually players who will be leaders. When I arrived to the team everybody on the team told me that no one gets alone with the coach because he doesn’t listens to the players or assist coaches. This tension with communication shows between the entire team, because the players and coach talk about the head coach and are also rebellions on the decisions that the head coach gives. This ended up being one of the worse teams that I have ever played for because of the communication lines of the entire team. That team was the most separated team that I have ever played for. The situation that I experienced with the Argentina team is a perfect example of why it is important for a leader to have an equal line of communication between people. When it come to basketball team that is a very important position. The affect of psychological size extremely affects the culture of an organization whether it is in a positive way or a negative way. Explanation / Answer

Leaders and their leadership style is very important to motivate a team of employees to deliver desired performance so that organization objective is achieved. I disagree with the leadership style that is quoted in the text of the question statement as it is more authoritative, a short term in nature and it alienate a leader from its employee followers. Thus, it creates a harmful situation for all the parties involved as well as the organization.

A leadership style should be transformational that brings inspiration and charisma in leadership that motivates employees. Here, a leader is the one that comes with bigger psychology size, but it is interpreted differently. It brings compassion, emotional attachment as well as dialogue between a leader and its follower employees (Bass & Avolio, 1997). It builds synergy that ultimately gives benefits to the organization. Thus, transformation style of leadership is what that creates best form of communication that diffuses tension, brings motivation and builds a cohesiveness in the team without any side effects of psychology size.
