Question

Ethical Choices: You submitted what you thought was a masterful report to your boss over three weeks ago. The report analyzes current department productivity and recommends several steps that you think will improve employee output without increasing individual workloads. Brilliant, you thought. But you haven’t heard a word from your boss. Did you overstep your boundaries by making recommendations that might imply that she has not been doing a good job? Did you overwhelm her with your ideas? You’d like some feedback. In your last e-mail to her, you asked if she had ready your report. So far, you’ve received no reply. Yesterday, you overheard the company vice president talk about some productivity changes in your department. The changes were the ones that you recommended in your report. Now you’re worried that your boss submitted your report in senior management and will take full credit for your terrific ideas. What, if anything, should you do? Should you confront your boss about this? Should you ask to meet with the company vice president? Develop a solution to this sticky situation. Explain the rationale behind your decision.

Explanation / Answer

In my opinion, I would ask to meet the company vice president, but in private.I would meet him/her with all my data and research report and show him/her that i was working hard on it.I would also tell the vicepresident that i have submitted my report with the reccomendation on improving employee output over three weeks ago and even asked her about whether she read my report or not but so far i have not got any feedbeck from her.I would show the VP all the copies of my emails with dates so that he/she can know that i have been working on it since long. Then finally,I would ask him/her for any suggestion on my report and whether they should be included in the company policy.
