Question
Ammonia and oxygen react to form nitrogen and water, like this: 4NH, (g) 302 g) 2N2 (g)+6H,0(g) Consider the following data on some weak acids and weak bases Suppose a mixture of NI O2, N2 and H2O has come to equilibrium in a closed reaction vessel. Predict what change, if any the perturbations in he table below wi he composition of the mixture in the vessel. Also decide w ther the equilibrium shifts to the right or left. hydroxylamine HONH 1.1x10 ethylamine C2HSNH 64 x 10 to the right Use this data to rank the following solutions in order of increasing pH. In other words, select a l' next to the solution that will The pressure of NH3 wil have the lowest pH, a next to the solution that will have the next lowest pH, and so on. The pressure of 02 to the right The pressure of Some NH3 is The pressure of to the right The pressure of NHB wil he volume of the the left 0.1 M NaF The pressure of A certain reaction is known to have an activation energy E 29.0 kJ/mol. Furthermore, the rate of this reaction is measured at 269. K and found to be 2.3 x 10 Mls. Use this information to answer the questions in the table below You may need to use the scrollbar to see all the choices Suppose the co tions of all reactants is kept the same, but the tempe lowered by 5% from 269. K to 256. K. choose one The rate wi How will the rate of the reaction ch ge? Suppose the co pt the same, but the catalys of all reactants is Complete the table below. Round each of your entries to 2 significant digits. You may assume the temperature is 25 0C added which h the effect of lowe g the activation energy by 5%, from 29.0 kJ/mol to consugate acid cendegate base The rate will 27.6 kJ/mol stay the How will the rate of the reaction change? rise about 5% rise less than 5% fall about 5% than 5% fall less than 5% A chemist must prepare 850.0 mL of hydrochloric acid solution with a pH of 1.30 at 25 C He will do this in three step Fill a 850.0 ml volumetric flask about halfway with distilled water. Measure out a small volume of concentrated (7,0M) stock hydrochloric acid solution and add it to the flask Fill the flask to the mark with distiled wate Calculate the volume of concentrated hydrochloric acid that the chemist must measure out in the second step. Round your answer to 2 significant digits.Explanation / Answer
LeChatlier's Principle:
For a system at equilibrium, if any factor that affect the equilbrium is changed, the equilibrium position will be shifted in such a direction that can nullify the effect of changed factor.
4 NH3 (g) + 3 O2 (g) -------------> 2 N2 (g) + 6 H2O (g)
Case (1) : Addition of some N2,
It increases the concentration of product, according to Lechatlier's principle, it shifts the equilbirum towards left left side. SO, the pressue of NH3 and O2 will increase.
Case(2) : Removal of some NH3,
It decreases the concentration of reactants, again it shifts the euilibrium towards left side. So, The pressure of O2 will increase and the pressure of N2 will decrease.
Case (3): Increase of volume of vessel,
Increase in volume will cause the decrease in pressure, according to Lechatlier's principle, it shifts the equilibrium position towards more number of gaseous substances i.e. in the present case towards right side.So, the pressure of NH3 and O2 will decrease.
