Question

1. Consider the circuit in the drawing. (R1 = 2.0 , R2 = 30 , V1 = 35.0 V.)

(a) Determine the magnitude of the current in the circuit.

(b) Determine the magnitude of the voltage between the points labeled A and B.

2. Find the current in the 10.0- resistor in the drawing (V1 = 15.0 V and R1 = 21.0 ).

3. Three capacitors are connected in series. The equivalent capacitance of this combination is 3.06 µF. Two of the individual capacitances are 6.36 µF and 8.28 µF. What is the third capacitance (in µF)?

4. In a heart pacemaker, a pulse is delivered to the heart 94 times per minute. The capacitor that controls this pulsing rate discharges through a resistance of 2.7 106 . One pulse is delivered every time the fully charged capacitor loses 63.2% of its original charge. What is the capacitance of the capacitor?

5. When a charged particle moves at an angle of 20° with respect to a magnetic field, it experiences a magnetic force of magnitude F. At what angle (less than 90°) with respect to this field will this particle, moving at the same speed, experience a magnetic force of magnitude 1.6F?

IReferencesJ Draw the major organic product of the following reaction: HIO OH You do not have to consider stereochemistry. You do not have to explicitly draw H atoms. If the given reaction has more than one step, give only the final product. In cases where there is more than one answer, just draw one. Do not include lone pairs in your answer. They wil not be considered in the grad

Explanation / Answer

1)

a)

Current = Net potential / net resistance

here Net resistance = 12 + 8 + R1 + R2

                               = 12 + 8 + 30 + 2

                               = 52 ohm

Net potential difference = 35 -10 = 25 V

So current = 25 / 52 = 0.48 A

magnitude of current = 0.48 A

b)

Also for potential difference between A and B ,

potential gain = 35 V

potential lose = V = I R

                      = 30 x 0.48

                      = 14.4
So net potential difference = 35 - 14.4

                                           = 20.6 V .

magnitude of the voltage = 20.6 V
