Question
The answer is A but I don't understand why.
Water (100.0 g and solid K_2 Cr_2 O_7 (30.0 g) are warmed from 30^degree C to 50^degree C with stirring. Describe the solution process. A saturated solution of K_2 Cr_2 O_7 results at 50^degree C. About half of the K_2 Cr_2 O_7 dissolves, but most of it remains as a solid at 50^degree C. No K_2 Cr_2 O_7 dissolves at 50^degree C because ionic solutes are less water soluble at higher temperatures. An unsaturated solution of K_2 Cr_2 O_7 results at 50^degree C.Explanation / Answer
30.0 g of K2Cr2O7 is dissolved in 100g of water .
This solution was warmed from 30 to 50 degrees. The solubility of a substance in water depends on the temperature of the system.
So at 50 degrees, from the above graph we see the maximum solubility (saturation limit: The concentration of the salt beyond which the salt will not get into the solution) is 30g per 100 mL. So at 50 degree Celsius the solution has reached the saturation limit of its solubillty. Any further addition of the salt (K2Cr2O7) will settle at the bottom of the container.
So the correct answer is option A.
