Question
I need help in find the missing number in these formula I wrote down the solutions and how did they find it but I still don't understand how this person found the answer. Problem Caic, e What are likely formulas fa the following substance r 63 CCI z Solution: CCI (b) A IM sulu non: AIM 3 because 3 hydrogen s complete the valence ot Al Y (c) CH, Cla on cu2a2 becauce a chlorin es would comp wa valent of carbons w/ 2 hydro%n s would complete the oeteh ot a) sit Sifo because b fluorines Solutut on K e) cu 3 H Solution: CH 3 NH 2 because a nitrogen s uou d complete the uolence of Corton wi 3 hy drogen JExplanation / Answer
the main points to remember in writing molecular formulae is knowing valency if covalent compound forms or ionic charge if it is inoic compound
a) C and Cl is defenetely going to form a covalent compound ,C has a valency of 4, and so C has to connect with 4 chlorines.so thus it is CCl4.
b)Al has ionic charge of +3 in its most stable ionized form. Al+3 and H-forms AlH3
c) C has valency of 4, means C can connect to maximum of 4 other atoms, alredy two Cl is given so it connect with two more hydrogens to complete valency.,so CH2Cl2
d)Si is C group ,so it also has valency 4.so it forms SiF4
e) here foccus is on Nitrogen, nitrogen valency is 3.so as one CH 3 is alredy present two more H is needed.so (CH3)NH2
