Immerse a small container of cold water in a pot of boiling water without letting the fluids mix. The heat supply to the pot is then immediately turned off. If one waits long enough, will the cooler water inside the small container come to a boil? Explain.Explanation / Answer
As soon as the heat supply to the pot is turned off, there is no heat input the system but the heat can leak out to the system. So a part of heat fom the boiling heat wil go the container with thte cold water and the other part will go to the environment. So the heat received by the container depends on the specific heat capacity of the container and also it will depend on the ambient temperature of the environment. This can be anlysed using the Newton's Law of cooling. So whether the water inside the conatiner will come to boil depends on many factors. It cannot be directly decided.
