a) dn = gas phased product coeffients - gas phased reactanats coefffients

        = 1+ 1 - 1= 1

when dn is +ve , increase in volume will favour equilibrium in forward ( i.e right side) direction

b) SOCl2 moles = M x V = 0.306 x 5.2 L = 1.5912

SO2 moles = Cl2 moles = 0.182 x 5.2 = 0.9464

at equilibrium SOCl2 moles = 1.5912-X , SO2 = Cl2 moles = 0.9464 + X

K = [SO2] [Cl2] /[SO2Cl2]

0.109 = [( 0.9464+X) /10.4] ^2 / ( 1.5912-X) /10.4

0.109 x 10.4 = ( X+ 0.9464)^2 / ( 1.5912-X)

1.804 - 1.1336X = ( X^2 + 1.8928X + 0.8957)

X^2 + 3.026X - 0.908 = 0

X = 0.275

[SO2Cl2] = (1.5912-0.275) /10.4 = 0.1266

[SO2] = ( 0.9464+0.275) /10.4 = 0.1174 M
