After the crucible cools you add a few drops of distilled water and heat again. The mass of the magnesium compound, crucible, and cover masses out to be 24.85 grams. Mass of crucible = 24.36 g

mass of crucible + magnesium = 24.66g

Thus mass of magnesium metal = 24.66-24.36 = 0.30 g

1) mass of Mg = 0.30 g

mass of crucible + Magnesium oxide = 24.85g

2) mass of magnesium compound = 24.85 -24.36

= 0.49 g

mass of oxygen in the compound = mass of magensium compound - mass of agnesium

= 0.49g - 0.30g

= 0.19g

Thus mass of O in compound = 0.19 g
