Question
A solar panel in pictured in the photo. When light shines on the panel, it generates an electric current that can be used to recharge the batteries in an electric car. What types of energy are involved is this setup? Determine which of the following represent potential energy and which represent kinetic energy. (a) thermal energy (b) gravitational energy (c) chemical energy (d) electrostatic energy Determine whether kinetic energy is being converted to potential energy, or vice versa, in the following processes (a) Water cascades downward in a waterfall. (b) A player kicks a football. (c) An electric current is generated by a chemical reaction in a battery. (d) Water boils when heated on a gas stove. These questions are not designated as to type or location in the chapter. They may combine several concepts. A piece of turquoise is a blue-green solid, it has a density of 2.65 g/cm^3 and a mass of 2.5 g. (a) Which of these observations are qualitative and which are quantitative? Which observations below describe chemical proportional (a) Sugar is soluble in water. (b) Water boils at 100 degree C (c) ultraviolet light covers O_3 to O_3 (d) Ice is less dense that water. Which observations below describe chemical prosperity? (a) Sodium metal reacts violently with water. (b) The combustion of octane (a compound in gasoline) gives CO_2 and H_2O (c) Chlorine is a green gas. The mineral fluorite contains the elements calcium and fluorine and can have various colors, including blue violet, green and yellow.Explanation / Answer
I am answering all those problems which I could understand by zooming into the picture.
Energy :
11. Mechaical Energy is being used to turn on the sliding switch. Once, the connection is established, the chemical energy stored in the cells is converted to electrical energy.
12. The types of energies involved are Solar Energy (which is basically the kinetic energy of photos), electrical energy(potential energy from excited electrons).
13. a. = Kinetic Energy, b = potential E. , c = potential energy, d = potential E. (because "static" word is used)
14. a. P-> K , b. P-> K , c. P->K , d. K->P
General Questions :
15. Density & mass are quantitative, because they are associated with a number defining the amount of that variable. Color & state of matter(solid) are qualitative, as they cannot be expressed or compared in amounts.
Color is intensive, because it remains same no matter how much of the material you consider. The same reasoning is for state of matter and density.
However, mass is extensive, because morethe material you consider, more is its mass.
16. Similar to above question. Mention any problem in the comments, and they will be answered.
17. a. physical property.
b. physical property
c. chemical property(because it involves formation of new chemical by modification in bonds
d. physical p.
18. a. Chemical p. because a chemical reaction takes place and a new product NaOH is formed.
b. definitely Chemical property.(chemical reaction; formation of new products)
c. Color = physical property
d. Change in state (solid->liquid) is a physical phenomenon
19. In particular order : Ca & F.
b. Photo not clear. However Ca & F form CaF2 crstals which are cubic.
