Question
In addition to plays, Shakespeare was an acclaimed materials scientist. For example, in Henry V, Act 3, Scene 3, King Henry stands before the town of Harfleur, he finishes his speech with "What say you? will you yield, and this avoid / Or, guilty in defence, be thus destroy'd?" The governor lets King Henry into the town without a fight. Is the town a metal or ceramic? Explain why in a sentence or two.
A question my professor asked us in class. Can you please take a stab at this? This is a materials science class and we are discussing Failure (fracture mechanics, fatigue, crack initiation, creep, etc.)
Explanation / Answer
The town is ceramic . As ceramic materials are brittle, it can be easily destroyed. had it made of iron, it would have very difficult to destroy it.
