Section Synthesis & Analysis of a Coordination Compound: Part I-synthesis of KslFe(C204 3H20 PRE-LABASSIGNMENT Although oxalic acid is not carcinogenic, it should be handled with some care. Refer to the What might happen if you get it on your skin? What should you do? What might happen if you swallow some of the oxalic acid solution? What should you do? 2. Define thermal equilibration. 3. If a student places a test tube containing a reaction mixture in a boiling water bath, will the contents of the test tube measure 100°C (the boiling temperature of water)? Explain. SOLUTION:
Q1. Oxalic acid may irritate skin. It may cause burns and dermatitis when skin comes in contact with it. We should remove the contaiminated clothing immediately and wash the skin with plenty of water. Oxalic acid is toxic when inhaled or ingested. If ingested wash the mouth thoroughly. Take water followed by milk of magnesia.
Q2. Two bodies are said to be in thermal equilibrium if no heat flows between them when they are connected to each other by heat pemeable path.
Q3. The temperature of contents of depend upon the boiling point of contents of test tube. If the boiling point of contents is lower than 100oC (say e.g. 80oC) the contents will read 80oC. If the boiling point of contents is above 100oC (say e.g. 120oC) the contents will read 100oC.
