Question
Do the reactants exist as molecules or ions? Does the conductivity change indicate the creation of more ions or a decrease in the number of ions? the total ionic equation for the reaction is the net ionic equation for the reaction is Interpret any changes in the conductivity- of the solutions, before and after mixing; in accordance with the preceding equations: the relative conductivities of the solutions tested are as follows: the total ionic equation for the reaction is the net ionic equation for the reaction is Interpret any changes in the conductivity of the solutions, before and after mixing, in accordance with the preceding equations:Explanation / Answer
H2SO4 (aq.) + Ba(OH)2 (aq.) -----------> BaSO4 (s) + 2 H2O (l)
Net ionic equation:
2 H+ (aq.) + SO42- (aq.) + Ba2+ (aq.) + 2 OH- (aq.) --------> BaSO4 (s) + 2 H2O(l)
Before adding the solutions, since they have the ions in their solutions they conduct electricity.
But after addition of both the solution, the mixture they form non dissociated BaSO4 and H2O where no ions can be found, so, the mixture does not conduct electricity.
